Color fasting
From DollyWiki
Clothing is color fast if the dyes do not bleed when exposed to water. For dolls, the term may refer to dyes which do not stain the doll. Outfits which are not color fast can stain a doll by the fabric's dye seeping into the doll's porous plastic, staining it the color of the dye.
Color fasting is a technique to color fast an outfit, to prevent it from staining. Color fasting typically uses a mixture of one part vinegar to three parts water, but different amounts may be used, and sometimes salt is included.
Color fasting process
You will need:
- A large bowl (not metal)
- 4 cups of water
- 1/4 cup of white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon of salt
Place all the ingredients in the bowl and stir to dissolve the salt. Place the clothing in the bowl and swish around until saturated. Leave the clothes in the solution for about 30 minutes to allow it to seep in. After the clothes have soaked, rinse them and wash them with a little gentle hand soap (not vigorously, just to remove any traces of vinegar) and leave to air-dry. Your clothes should now not stain or continue to stain.
This does not make the clothes smell like vinegar.
